Karen Friedstrom - clay sculptures, jewelry, cards, home and holiday goods
It seems like I have been creating artwork since my kindergarten years, of course most of my creations were made with sticks, stones and found objects stuck together with and a whole lot of glue or on occasion even mud. Back then frequent baths and bleach were my mom's go to fix.
Through the years I dabbled in many mediums from oil painting to calligraphy, collage to basket weaving. Art and creativity has always been a constant comfort and appearance in my life.
Most recently my attention is focused on clay sculptures. One of a kind whimsical clay creations that I design for all of the major holidays is my specialty. Cats, dogs, pigs and kangaroo's join my menagerie of animals with, on occasion, Santas, snowmen, and spooky Halloween creatures. Lately my inventory has expanded to wall decor suitable for children's rooms that include farmland and safari animals.
I also love repurposing found objects found at local haunts and finding new ways to use an outdated item. Vintage paper goods, buttons, metal parts, architectural pieces and jewelry parts are just some of the treasures I incorporate in my jewelry pieces and wall art. My most recent addition are greeting cards using vintage paper ephemera such as decades old advertising, cartoons and maps. Matched up with handmade fabric or paper envelopes, they make any occasion special and memorable.
Besides my artwork I keep busy with my family, friends, my cat Tinker, volunteering at a local hospital and frequent scouting for those tossed away treasures. I am an avid Blazer fan, love reading and am in constant search for inspiration to start a new project. Thanks for stopping by and visiting my site!
