Opal Fire Studio
Rosemary originally went to college to be an artist…but engineering provided a formidable challenge and a divergent path for many years. The urge of creating finally emerged when she started a ceramic hobby. She spent her spare time hours working on perfecting technical skills of working with clay, making compositions/sculptures and functional pieces. Working at the Multnomah Art Center provided a great set of resources, and access to instruction, but after several years decided to build a studio to be free to create whatever, and whenever. After completion and settling into the studio, she began work on sculptural pieces, concentrating on form.
Her most recent direction is exploring textures, on smaller sculptural, and function pieces, incorporating natural elements of water, air, Terra Firma, and life, mostly from the NW.
Clay allows for a quickly creating forms and shapes, combining textures and color. Using primarily white stoneware/ porcelain like clay bodies, the application of texture and color are more direct and clearer. Some colors treatments are by China paints, while others are oxides or glazes. Textures are, well almost as endless as color choices.!!
