My name is Kelly Casperson, I am an artist and a teacher. My business, Seven Stars Studio, is located in the Beaverton home I share with my husband and son. This is where I create my paintings, drawings, and other art pieces. In 2009, Seven Stars Studio expanded to include art instruction. It is a joy to teach young artists, their fearlessness and enthusiasm is amazing and contagious.

My own, on-going growth as an artist has included attending classes and workshops, reading and studying books about art and artists, and a lot of exploration with a variety of media. My primary media initially was watercolors, which I still enjoy. Over the years, I added calligraphy, mixed media and paper mache, to my artistic toolbox. Recently I discover a new art movement, Zentangle. While the idea of covering space with patterns is not new, I was intrigued by the philosophy. Taking off from that point, I began to explore patterns and designs in art and nature, which I then used as inspiration for my newest pieces.

My art has always had a meditative quality, it centers and balances me while I am working on it. I always hope that when someone takes a piece home to live with them, they will find the same quiet joy and harmony I found during its creation.

Any person with a desire to be an artist should be encouraged and nurtured. Talent isn’t some mysterious force, it is the result of taking the inner desire and adding to it knowledge, training, and practice. In this way the artist grows.

An artist also grows by spending time with other artists along with those who enjoy and appreciate art. That is why I am so happy to be a part of Artistic Portland! Having a home at Artistic Portland allows me to be a part of an artistic family, and have a place to share my art with others.
