This week's blog was written by fiber arts artist Karin Kaufmann of Nadelwerk. Karin provides us with and insider's view on the importance of presentation when selling art!
Labeling your handmade products can be as hard as pricing, especially if you are new to creating and selling. It can give you a lot of headache, even fear that you might appear arrogant but it can contribute a lot to your success. Your label can directly influence the buyer’s purchasing decision and several factors should be considered when choosing your product labels
Consider color, font and size in terms of presentation. Silver stands for sophistication and elegance; brown paper labels represent earthiness, reliability and sustainability; blue packaging does convey trust and authority. Usually, red and yellow are colors that are known to lead to make a purchase, but this is not always the best choice although you want your product to stand out on the shelves. And of course the color of your product needs to be taken into consideration as well when choosing your label.
Your company name should be easy to identify and will help solidify your brand identity. Attractive looking labels can go a long way to give your business a professional appearance. There is a big variety of shapes for your label which will also draw attention to your product but keep a consistency as it is a testament to the quality of the product and your business.
Always make sure your labels look their best at all times, has it faded or smudged letters? If yes, replace it. You don’t want your customer to think they are holding a non-seller in their hands.
